Types of Hajj – Which One Will You Perform?
Understanding the different types of Hajj is essential for every pilgrim preparing for this sacred journey. There are three main types of Hajj, each with its unique method and intention. This visual guide helps simplify the differences to help you choose the type that suits your situation:
🕋 Hajj Al-Qiran – Umrah & Hajj with a Single Ihram
-
Performed with the intention of doing both Umrah and Hajj together without exiting Ihram.
-
The pilgrim enters Ihram once and remains in it until both rituals are complete.
-
Umrah is done first, followed by Hajj.
-
Qurbani (animal sacrifice) is required.
🕋 Hajj Al-Ifrad – Hajj Only, Without Umrah
-
Known as the isolated Hajj.
-
Performed by those living within Miqat boundaries (e.g., Makkah, Jeddah).
-
Only Hajj is performed – no Umrah.
-
Qurbani is not required.
🕋 Hajj Al-Tamattu – Umrah and Hajj with Two Ihrams
-
The most common type for international pilgrims.
-
Umrah is performed first, and then the pilgrim exits the state of Ihram.
-
A new Ihram is worn for Hajj on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah.
-
Qurbani is required.
